Uriyadi is a part of the many festivities that is celebrated in the month of October as a part of the Krishna Jayanthi festival for Lord Krishna. Each village in the Nilgiris will host their own uriyadi. A clay pot is hung on a tall wooden frame as one person is handed a stick and has to break the pot while another group of people, kids and adults throw water on him in an attempt to deter him from breaking the pot. The pot is controlled by a person who tugs on the rope changing the height from which the pot is hanging.

One October afternoon, while we were wrapping up after another day of class at Light and Life Academy, some of the attendees working in the college came and invited us to their villages for the uriyadi. These are images shot at my first time experiencing this beautiful celebration.
